One-on-one with Birmingham Legion's newest investor Dominique Wilkins

One-on-one with Birmingham Legion's newest investor Dominique Wilkins
I'm here at Protective Stadium and this is now the new home for NBA Hall of Famer, Dominique Wilkins and Dominique. You're new *** little bit to the pitch here. But I have to ask you, of course, as you joined the ownership here of the Birmingham Legion, why was it so important to get involved? Because I spent *** lot of time here in Birmingham, but I wanted to get involved in some sort of business here, did not know it was gonna be soccer and, but more, the more I came down here, the more interested I got in this young soccer team. And so the conversations came around pretty quickly, one of the owners and I have known each other 30 years ago. So it was *** pretty quick process and, uh, I can't tell you how thrilled I am to see such *** young franchise and had *** taste of winning very early. And the short time they've been here is really impressive. So it shows you that they want to get to that next level. Absolutely. And I know you've been in some incredible atmospheres, just so many incredible moments for your historic career in basketball. But what is it about soccer that just draws you in something that, you know, makes it interesting for fans who are still trying to learn the game. It's *** phenomenon in this country now, I saw it when I was retiring uh in Europe and saw the explosion over there because it's been *** part of that culture for many, many decades and to see it now exploding in the U si I wanted to be kind of uh *** part of that, you know, so to speak. So this was *** pretty easy decision to be *** part of this franchise, but to have great ownership that embraces you and brings you in and I couldn't be more thrilled. Yeah. And then I have to ask you, I know that this city already means so much to you for so many reasons tied to your family, tied to the culture and the history here. So what are you hoping to do here with your stake here with the Birmingham Legion to help build that? Well, get to learn the people outside of these walls, the business communities and let people know, hey, we really care. And so we want you to be *** part of what we're building. And so to get even *** bigger fan base here, that's our goal. And then of course, the ultimate goal is to win games. I think you're going to help with that. But my last question put you on the spot. What is the slam dunk of soccer? You were the greatest, can we say it? The greatest of all time of the dunk? What is that in soccer? If you had to say something right now that you've seen out there, the athleticism and the creativity with their feet is special. It's harder. I think what they do is harder. I'm gonna tell you right now. I mean, I could never do some of the stuff that they do as far as how they change direction and get up and down this field. This is *** huge field. So the stamina that they have is so impressive. This former soccer player, um I'm gonna take that and say, and feel good today that you told me that this game is harder than what you were doing. Well, hey, if, if I had to choose between Duncan or trying to get down the field and get by people, I take dunking all day. Yeah. Well, maybe you can teach me some of those lessons. Ok. Yeah. You know, I can't, I can't do it anymore, but you know, I can show you what to do. You're *** lot younger than I am. So it's all good Dominique. We appreciate you. Look forward to see what you do here in Birmingham and everyone make sure to catch this team Birmingham Legion one more time for the fans. Hammer down, hammer down. Let's go
